Human personality is shaped by the experiences of life. These experiences might be gathered by an individual staying at his own residence, or, somewhere away from home.
The hostel is a place where students stay for pursuing formal education away from their homes. But the concept of hostel is not only limited to place of residence, hostel is a human practical laboratory. Therefore hostel is not simply a place for living it is a center of education. Students learn as much as from their teachers as well as fellows during hostel stay. It enriches the understanding of the curriculum through analytical discussion among the students living in the hostels, and may contribute to character building as well. Students in hostel not only learn the theoretical material they also learn how to enhance their personal abilities and learn to live independently.
Living away from family for a specific period of time leaves some enduring experiences in the life of the students. In this new life style student learns to live independently, and learn how to compromise with the other students and roommates.
Students living in hostels face many difficulties and hurdles such as financial crises, adjustment issues, personal helplessness, distress, changes in eating and sleep habits, and many other issues. Research suggests that Empathy, altruistic behavior, emotional stability will be more in hostel students. Hostel environment gives an opportunity for socialization among students.
There is a popular quotation “Times change people changes” and it is best applicable for the hostel students. Here, in St Mary’s English School, we are very particular in inculcating all these habits into our boarders. We have to remember a very simple truth : the day we start removing the negative thoughts from our mind, we start living a positive life.
Lastly, it’s our commitment to the future of our country to bring forth some such citizens who will again kindle the lamp of knowledge and wisdom in the court of geniuses around the world.

RULES & REGULATION FOR STUDENT

	Hostellers should follow the daily routine of the hostel.
	No hosteller will be allowed to stay back in their rooms or in the hostel premises during the school timings.
	No hosteller is allowed to keep any cash and valuable articles in his possession. Pocket money for hostellers will be deposited to the hostel office under supervision of hostel warden.
	No hosteller is allowed to keep in his room any articles like mobile, transistor, record player, electrical kettle, heater etc.
	No hosteller is allowed to keep any type of medicine in his possession without being prescribed by the authorized private medical practitioner.
	The reports of the hostellers of their school examination will be provided to their parents / local guardian at a fixed date which will be informed to them with prior notice.
	No hostellers are allowed to invite their class-mates / school-mates in their rooms or in the hostel premises for their personal interaction or any other reasons.
	The hostellers when fallen sick will report to the hostel warden immediately.
	All the hostellers should deposit their fees of the office as per the stipulated schedule given in the hostel and the school prospectus.
	No hostellers will be allowed to attend the school or remain in hostel during his illness if he has been treated outside the prescribed hospital / nursing home / medical practitioner until the medical fitness certificate has been submitted by him to the warden.
	No hostellers will bring any food ( breakfast / lunch / dinner ) from outside the hostel premises.
	All hostellers have to follow strict rules of their respective rooms. They are supposed to develop the sense of discipline under the guidance and direction of the warden. Repeated acts of misconduct or dishonesty of hosteller and failure to respond to the disciplinary action taken by the warden will lead to the expulsion of the hosteller concerned or to his or her withdrawals from the school.
	No hostellers should harm the other students physically or mentally. Boys and girls should look upon their hostel-mates as brothers and sisters.
	No hostellers will take or snatch any type of things from co-hostellers by force or by threatening them.
	No hostellers will cause destruction to any article of the hostel which is provided to them for their daily use or the appliances fitted in the hostel. Any damage or destruction caused to hostel property by any student may invite fine / replacement etc.
	All the hostellers are responsible for their own belongings; any negligence on their part will be their sole responsibility. Any loss of articles will be their personal loss.
	Smoking, consuming alcohol, chewing tobacco,is strictly prohibited.
	No hostellers should possess any kind of sharp articles like knives, sword, blades etc.
	No hostellers should use abusive language in the hostel premises. The hostel pays special attention inducting discipline and good manner.
	Hostel management committee reserve the right to take any disciplinary action against any hosteller, for violation of hostel rules.

RULES & REGULATION FOR PARENT

Visiting Days & Visiting Hours	The parents / local guardians will be allowed to meet their wards twice in a month on any Sunday between 10:00 am to 1:00 pm with the prior approval of the hostel warden. They may also take their wards for any local tour on that particular day, however, they should return their ward on the same day within 6:00 pm positively.
Supply of food items & cash	Parents / local guardians are requested not to supply any cash and food items except fruits or light snacks to their wards without informing the hostel warden. Pocket money for hostellers will be deposited to the hostel office under supervision of hostel warden. Exit for students from Hostel Students will be allowed to go home from the hostel only during holidays like Summer Vacation, Puja Vacation and X-mas holidays. Besides, the parents / local guardians are required to make separate application to hostel authority for any extra leave ( Maximum 10 days leaves in any academic session ) from the hostel for their wards. However, the hostel authority reserves the right to grant such leave.
Notes	Parents visiting cards will be issued by hostel authority to meet their wards. No parents / local guardians will be allowed to meet their wards without submitting the parents Visiting Cards to the hostel authority. The parents card will be deposited to the hostel warden before taking their wards away from the hostel campus.
Conclusion	The school and hostel authority will do its utmost to guide and educate the children the best possible way with the help of the guardians. Your support and co-operations will encourage us to do our best for your children.

WHY MANDAKINI HOSTEL

Personal care	Mandakini hostel is both for boys & girls providing guidance & affection to each & every child. A guardian meeting takes place on every second Sunday of a month. The hostel super personally guides the students regarding their academics, life style, behavioural pattern & mannerisms. We also have a lady teacher for the proper mental support & assistance of the girl students.
Medical Care	Mandakini hostel is specialized in providing proper medical assistance to the students. Every child is given proper care & assistance.
Other Activities	Parents visiting cards will be issued by hostel authority to Under the guidance of professionals the Day boarders learn—Dancing, Skating, Swimming,Karate,Boxing,Meditation.
